Music BC Travel Grants 2026/27: British Columbia Artists and Music Businesses Apply by 8 January
Music BC's 2026/27 travel support is open now
Music BC is accepting Artist and Business Travel Grant applications for activities involving domestic or international showcases, tours and music-industry business travel. The current intake opened October 1, 2026 and closes January 8, 2027 at 5:00 p.m. Pacific Standard Time. It covers eligible activities taking place from October 1, 2026 through March 31, 2027. This precise project window matters: a showcase or tour scheduled in the summer of 2027 cannot simply be included in the January round.
This opportunity is specifically administered by Music BC for British Columbia-based music artists and industry professionals, rather than an unrestricted global competition. Canadian acts living outside the province, and foreign acts with no BC operating base, should check the current eligibility guidelines and not presume they qualify.
Two different programs with separate applications
The program distinguishes Artist Travel Grants and Business Travel Grants. The artist application supports appropriate domestic or international touring and official showcasing activities. Music companies and professionals taking part in industry conferences, business development, promotional visits or trade missions should review the Business Travel Grant route instead. Each stream has its own guidelines and submission form.
For artists, a showcase should typically be a professionally confirmed event rather than an informal idea; touring applicants should prepare detailed venue, date and contract evidence. The exact minimum tour-show counts, required travel distance and membership obligations may change with yearly program guidelines, so consult the 2026/27 artist-specific document rather than relying on an older archived PDF.
Upcoming second intake and project dates
A second intake is scheduled to open on March 4, 2027 and close May 7, 2027 at 5:00 p.m. Pacific time. It is intended for travel activities between April 1 and September 30, 2027. Music BC explicitly states that it does not accept applications between those windows. Applicants should select the window corresponding to the date of the activity, not simply choose whichever portal happens to be visible.
The first intake is now active. Artists with accepted conference showcases or confirmed tours in late 2026 or the first quarter of 2027 should assemble their itinerary, formal confirmations and production budget soon, as grant staff may need additional details before the deadline. Time-zone conversion is important for musicians submitting outside British Columbia.
Budgeting without assuming a promised award
Music BC's public 2026/27 landing page does not display a fixed award amount applicable to all artist and business applications. Travel funding is a competitive contribution to approved initiatives, not a promise of full airfare, accommodation, visas and musician fees. Applicants should check the exact current grant maximum, eligible expenses, reimbursement procedures and any matching requirements in their stream's current linked guidelines.
Build a transparent budget for each traveller or band member, distinguish confirmed offers from provisional opportunities, and review whether costs incurred before a grant decision are eligible. If an artist has already bought tickets, that does not automatically make the trip reimbursable. Keep clear documentation of promoter invitations, paid performances, invoices, accommodation and an activity plan.
Organizer experience: past recipients are published
Music BC is a provincial non-profit music industry organization supporting artists, professionals and music businesses through travel assistance, export initiatives, education, industry events and the ARC accelerator. The provincial support for its Travel Grants comes from Creative BC and the Province of British Columbia.
The organization maintains a publicly accessible archive of grant recipients for rounds going back to at least 2022 and publishes separate artist/business application forms and contact details. These records allow applicants to verify the scheme's history and legitimacy before sharing financial and professional information. None of the prior recipients or awards guarantee a new applicant will be selected.
