Canada House at The Great Escape 2027: Canadian Artists Must Apply to Two Forms by 13 November
A UK showcase opportunity for Canada's independent music sector
The Canadian Independent Music Association (CIMA) has invited applications from Canadian bands and artists interested in Canada House showcases at The Great Escape 2027 in Brighton, England. The event is scheduled for May 12–15, 2027, and CIMA's Canada House application closes on November 13, 2026. The festival itself runs a broader international artist application process on a different timetable; submitting only that general festival form is not sufficient for Canada House consideration.
The Great Escape brings together emerging artists, delegates, labels, bookers and other industry participants across numerous Brighton venues. The value of the mission is not limited to a short concert: the associated business meetings and networking events are intended to support export relationships for Canadian music businesses.
Two applications are compulsory
According to CIMA, artists must complete both its dedicated Canada House questionnaire and The Great Escape's main artist application. The CIMA questionnaire is available at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/KNHWV5H. The official festival application is at https://greatescapefestival.com/apply-to-play/.
CIMA states that the main festival submission system remains open until February, but specifically requires Canadian acts interested in Canada House to meet the November 13, 2026 deadline for its own form. It recommends early completion of both applications, ideally by the end of November or sooner, to allow promotional and export support planning. Applying through only one portal is a preventable reason for a submission not to be assessed.
Representation and costs: what 'no application fee' actually covers
There is no fee to submit a Canada House showcasing application. This does not mean every selected artist receives a free, fully funded trip to the United Kingdom. If a showcase is accepted, the presenting partner—often a provincial music association hosting Canada House—incurs showcasing costs. A participating company joining only the business mission may be invoiced following its application.
Each artist must have a business representative available to engage with industry delegates. Self-management is acceptable when artists are confident handling business meetings personally. Applicants should contact their provincial music association, such as MusicOntario, Music BC, Manitoba Music, Alberta Music, SaskMusic or their local equivalent, to discuss a realistic UK export plan and any separately available support. Travel, visas, accommodation and promotional costs should not be assumed to be paid unless confirmed in writing.
Who makes the selection and what improves an application
Final artist selection is made by The Great Escape rather than guaranteed by CIMA upon receipt of a form. A compelling application should include reliable live-performance footage, up-to-date streaming and press links, a current release strategy and a clear rationale for entering the UK market. A manager, label or self-managed representative should identify specific industry relationships they hope to build during the event.
This is a professional showcase opportunity, not an ordinary talent contest with a fixed cash prize. An act with no international touring plans or business representative should reconsider whether the financial and logistical commitment makes sense at this stage.
About the organizer: CIMA's established export work
CIMA represents Canadian-owned independent music companies and creators. Its history dates to the foundation of the Canadian Independent Record Production Association in 1975, and its public activities include advocacy, professional development and international music export missions. This national trade association has a multi-decade public track record and publishes its own organizer contact information and submission links.
The Great Escape is an established Brighton multi-venue industry festival, and the Canada House program is presented alongside provincial music associations and other industry partners. These identifiable organizations provide clearer accountability than a third-party company promising guaranteed UK appearances. Selection, however, remains competitive.
