Singapore AISS 2027: Schools and Music Artists Co-Design 12-Hour Programmes by 20 November
Singapore school-artist collaborations have a November deadline
The National Arts Council (NAC) has opened its 2027 Artist-In-School Scheme (AISS) for sustained collaborations between arts professionals and mainstream or Special Education (SPED) schools in Singapore. Schools seeking support for projects commencing from Term 2 on 22 March 2027 must apply by 20 November 2026. An earlier Term 1 application window closed on 12 October; readers should not confuse that expired intake with the forthcoming Term 2 deadline.
This is not a worldwide open audition where a musician can register as a solo performer and claim an automatic grant. The scheme is designed around school-led applications developed jointly with practising arts professionals. Music educators and creative practitioners should first find a suitable school partner and agree a realistic co-designed learning programme.
Music, traditional arts and non-performing production skills qualify
Eligible arts professionals can include musicians, composers, dancers, writers, sculptors and professionals such as lighting and sound designers. Projects can develop pupils' performing or creative skills, introduce sound production and music appreciation, explore traditional instruments or multicultural artistic practices, and link the arts to wider education objectives. An enhanced 2027 AISS pathway specifically offers additional support to suitable traditional and multicultural arts programmes.
The NAC's own description stresses that projects must do more than offer a one-off performance. They should build students' participation, curriculum connections, understanding and creative experience over time. A Singaporean music ensemble could, for instance, partner with teachers for classroom songwriting, instrument exploration and an accessible performance, but this is an illustration, not a commission announced for any particular school.
At least twelve hours with the same group of students
Each project should provide a minimum of 12 interaction hours between the artist and the same class or cohort of pupils. The collaboration must be designed with the school's teachers to suit students' needs. SPED projects are expected to align with students' learning and access requirements and develop relevant teacher capabilities where appropriate.
A touring act seeking just a single assembly concert will therefore not meet the normal sustained-engagement requirement. Applicants should map the entire schedule, who supervises learners, child safeguarding, consent for filming or sharing students' performances, intellectual-property responsibilities, accessibility and the documentation needed for a post-project report.
Applicant identity and award amount: read the 2027 grant guidelines
The official AISS scheme provides documents for both mainstream and SPED schools, including 2027 guidelines, application templates, reporting templates and briefing slides. Its public summary does not promise a single standard cash award for every proposed project. Schools should calculate the proposed artist fees, travel, materials and teaching arrangements using the 2027 programme guidance and their actual contract, rather than assuming a guaranteed rate.
School applicants submit the online form linked on NAC's official website. The scheme states that decisions will be communicated in batches between October 2026 and February 2027. A performing artist should not sign an irrevocable commitment to deliver a costly school programme until the school's support decision and written agreement are clear.
Who runs it? National Arts Council's documented school partnerships
NAC is Singapore's national arts development agency and publishes an annual arts plan, arts education programmes, funding schemes, artform guidance and formal 2027 AISS documentation. The 2027 call explicitly identifies enhanced support for Traditional Arts and Multicultural Arts, in addition to the established school-artist partnership mechanism. These official materials and the .gov.sg website provide reliable evidence of who is responsible for the grant.
