Mascarade Opera 2027–28: Singer and Répétiteur Auditions Close 16 November
Mascarade Opera is recruiting emerging singers and répétiteurs for its 2027–28 artist programme in Florence, Italy. Applications via YAP Tracker close on Monday, 16 November 2026. Unlike a conventional vocal competition, this opportunity is built around artistic development, opera-house connections, coaching and a personalised one-to-two-year professional pathway.
Eligibility and programme format
The online application states an upper age limit of 30 on the closing date. Artists born on or before 16 November 1996 are not eligible. Both vocalists and rehearsal pianists may apply. Mascarade Opera describes its training as individually tailored rather than a single fixed curriculum; the programme's wider network includes professional performance and mentoring opportunities across Europe.
Video requirements for singers
Singers need a short spoken personal statement in English or Italian, plus two recent recordings of contrasting arias in different languages. The aria recordings must have been made within the previous three months; one must be in Italian and one must feature recitative-style delivery. Candidates also supply a short CV and headshot. Preparing these specific materials in advance is essential because older or unsuitable recordings may not meet the published criteria.
Requirements for répétiteurs
Répétiteur applicants submit a personal statement in English or Italian, together with two video recordings made within the preceding year. The recordings must demonstrate accompaniment of a singer in a song and an opera aria. The artistic programme also describes keyboard and opera-score expectations, including playing vocal lines, sight-reading and selected Puccini and Mozart excerpts at audition.
Auditions and professional context
Selected applicants are due to be invited in December 2026 for live auditions in Florence on 5–7 February 2027. Mascarade Opera is part of The New Generation Foundation and publishes concrete alumni outcomes: for example, past participant Mariam Suleiman has joined the Zurich Opera Studio, while other alumni hold engagements at European opera houses. These examples illustrate the programme's existing network without guaranteeing a placement to any new applicant.
How to apply safely
Complete the official YAP Tracker entry and consult Mascarade Opera's own programme information. Check audition travel, visa arrangements and any current administrative fees before committing. A successful initial video submission does not itself guarantee entry to the programme.
