Bay View Music Festival 2027: La Traviata, Les Misérables and Vocal Scholarship Auditions
Opera and musical theatre during a six-week Michigan festival
Bay View Music Festival is recruiting singers for its 2027 summer programme in Petoskey, Michigan. The mainstage track includes fully staged Verdi La Traviata with chamber orchestra as well as participation in Les Misérables, with a schedule from 15 June to 30 July 2027. Another ten-day American Spirituals Intensive runs 30 July–9 August. Applicants must be 18 or older and have completed at least one year of college; there is no published upper age limit.
Audition dates and contrasting repertoire
City-specific applications close on 25 November (Bloomington), 26 November (Kalamazoo), 27 November (Lexington), 28 November (Chicago) and 9 December (New York). The recorded route closes 19 December 2026. Singers upload three video selections, ideally spanning Italian, English and musical-theatre repertoire. A piece linked to the production in which the applicant seeks a role is welcome. The festival provides a pianist for live auditions, but the singer pays the accompanist $30 directly unless bringing their own.
An affordable application is not free attendance
The reduced application charge is $5. The organiser says the full six-week programme price is $6,000 before assistance, while the typical remaining tuition, room and board cost after scholarship is $1,950–$2,750. All admitted students receive some form of assistance, but it does not automatically make attendance free. For the shorter American Spirituals Intensive, the advertised post-scholarship average is $250–$500. Travel to Michigan is the participant's responsibility.
