Overview

Japan Century Symphony Orchestra is recruiting one principal oboist. Applicants must have the ability required of a professional orchestral musician. There are no restrictions on age, education, nationality or sex. Auditions take place at Century Orchestra House in Toyonaka, Osaka Prefecture.

Selection schedule

A document screening is followed by the first audition on 13 April 2027 and the second on 14 April 2027. In the third stage, candidates perform a prescribed number of concerts as guest musicians, followed by an interview. The orchestra pays its standard performance fee and travel expenses for these guest appearances.

Audition repertoire

The first and second auditions require the first movement of Mozart’s Oboe Concerto in C major, K.314, without cadenza, plus orchestral excerpts. The passages to be played are selected on the day. Piano accompaniment is required for the concerto, and applicants normally arrange their own accompanist.

Employment conditions and deadline

Pay follows orchestra regulations; the published example is a monthly base salary of JPY 216,000 at age 30. Social insurance is provided. After probation the position is indefinite, with retirement at 60. Probation is normally two months and may extend to six months, under the same conditions as permanent employment. Applications must arrive by 1 March 2027.

How to apply

Complete the official application form, attach a photograph and submit it by post. Overseas residents alone may submit by email; documents not written in Japanese must include a Japanese translation. Audition travel, accommodation and accompanist costs are borne by the applicant.
