Competition overview

Trio Oriens invites composers worldwide to submit original works incorporating Asian cultural elements. The 2026 competition has two age groups: under 18, and ages 18–28.

Works and application materials

Works must be for piano, violin and cello and last 6–10 minutes. Submit an anonymous PDF score and an MP3 of a live performance (preferred) or a MIDI file. A color portrait, contact details, proof of date of birth, an English biography and an English description of the work’s Asian elements are also required.

Deadline, fee and awards

Entries close on 1 November 2026. The fee is US$25; fee-waiver applications must be submitted before 15 October 2026. Results are scheduled for 1 December 2026. Awards are up to US$600 for winners aged 18–28 and US$400 for winners under 18. Winning compositions will be premiered by Trio Oriens in 2027.

Application and rights

Apply through the form on the official page, then proceed to payment. Composers retain copyright, but must consent to the specified use of their names, photographs, biographies and composition materials. Winning works must carry the award credit; Trio Oriens reserves non-commercial use rights for those works and related audiovisual materials.
