The Trondheim International Chamber Music Competition (TICC) has announced its 14th edition for piano trios, taking place 21–25 September 2027 alongside the Trondheim Chamber Music Festival in Norway. The online application period is scheduled to open on 10 January 2027 and to close on 20 April 2027; applications are NOT open as of October 2026. Ensemble selection results are expected by mid-May. Violin–cello–piano trios interested in international chamber careers can begin planning, but should wait for the official 2027 instructions.

Important: the 2027 repertoire rules are not published yet

The organizer explicitly says that the rules and compulsory programme for 2027 will be released in November 2026. A long repertoire list visible on the current webpage belongs to the 2023 competition and is clearly labeled as historical; it must not be copied as the 2027 required programme. Applicants should prepare a flexible trio repertoire, then consult the updated instructions for precise age limits, eligibility, video audition materials and required works.

International competition calendar

In-person rounds are scheduled for 21–25 September 2027. The application period of 10 January to 20 April gives groups several months to refine recorded materials, agree on their three members' availability and coordinate travel after selection in May. Because the organizer has not yet released the new regulations, this article intentionally does not assert a registration fee, maximum combined age or travel-support amount. These details should be confirmed before any financial commitment.

What makes a strong piano trio application?

A trio must demonstrate an integrated chamber sound, not merely three accomplished solo performances. Groups can prepare contrasted Classical, Romantic and contemporary repertoire, keep audio or video documentation of a complete movement, and document stable ensemble membership. If individual musicians also work in other groups, check the future rules on overlapping participants, substitutions and prior competition prizewinners. Rehearsal planning and conflict-free September availability matter as much as the preliminary recording.

Organizer background

Established in 2000, TICC takes place within Trondheim's chamber-music ecosystem and has built an international history of prize-winning ensembles. Its site lists earlier winners including Trio con Brio Copenhagen, the Danish String Quartet and the Van Kuijk Quartet. It documents competitions and pedagogical activities, which allows applicants to research its history and the artistic standard. Subscribe to the official updates rather than treating old PDF files as the forthcoming 2027 rules.
