Eurosonic exposure for two locally linked original-music bands

The Prins Claus Conservatorium (PCC) in Groningen is inviting applications for two jazz-pop showcase slots associated with Eurosonic Noorderslag (ESNS) 2027. The main festival and conference runs 13–17 January 2027; the conservatory's showcase concerts are specifically planned for 14 and 15 January. Applications close on 1 November 2026, and candidates should receive an outcome by 15 November. PCC runs the initiative with InJazz and Buma Cultuur, organisations active in the Dutch and international live-music industry.

This is a limited student/alumni opportunity, not a general international festival open call. A band based outside the Dutch conservatory and local scene should not assume that seeing an ESNS headline gives it access to this particular two-slot showcase. The organizer asks for local or student bands suitable for its contemporary profile.

Pop, indie, club music and jazz-adjacent styles—not standards

PCC seeks original music that is jazz-influenced while fitting a pop, indie or club-oriented live-show setting. It explicitly says the showcases are non-traditional jazz, and the repertoire must be original rather than made up of covers or familiar standards. Artists who work between improvisation, electronics, modern songwriting and contemporary groove music may therefore be more suitable than an ensemble performing only canonical straight-ahead jazz.

Current PCC students can apply, as can recent alumni who graduated in 2021 or later. The organizer's call does not advertise a general age ceiling or a separate financial-prize category. A band should confirm the academic or alumni relationship of its relevant members and be prepared to explain the original programme it proposes to present.

The event also recruits a production team

In addition to the two performance slots, the college is recruiting people to assist the production of the event. Tasks include organisation, marketing, media, publishing and copyright-related preparation. Those interested in the music business rather than appearing on stage may gain practical experience working with a showcase and industry delegates. The production team is expected to participate in three or four meetings before the event.

This second pathway makes the call useful to aspiring managers, promoters, recording professionals and student media producers as well as performing bands. However, a voluntary or educational project role should not be described as a guaranteed salaried job; the announcement does not publish a standard honorarium or employment contract.

Prepare a concise and verifiable showcase application

Applicants should use the official form linked from the conservatory's October 2026 announcement. A band can prepare representative live-performance links, the members' PCC student or alumni status, an overview of its original repertoire, stage and sound requirements, and availability on 14–15 January. These are practical preparation recommendations; the precise required fields remain those on the online form.

PCC notes that this is an opportunity to meet professionals linked to InJazz and Buma Cultuur. Selection for a showcase is not equivalent to a recording contract, a guarantee of touring or guaranteed reimbursement of travel expenses. Musicians should ask the organiser to clarify fees, technical provision and rights associated with performance recording if those matters affect acceptance.

Organizer experience and primary application

The Prins Claus Conservatorium belongs to Hanze University of Applied Sciences in Groningen and provides professional training across jazz, pop and other musical disciplines. Its partnerships with Buma Cultuur and InJazz connect student musicians to industry events; the public notice names the dates and the original-music requirement. InJazz also hosts established jazz-business networking and is involved in other industry platforms.
