Three instruments competing within one category

The Kodály Competition Debrecen will hold its 2027 woodwind edition in Debrecen, Hungary, from 26 June to 4 July 2027. Flute, oboe and clarinet performers compete in a combined category rather than three unrelated contests. The rules are open to players of all nationalities born on or after 26 June 1997, giving an upper age limit of 30 on the event's opening date. Applications opened on 28 September 2026 and close on 16 December 2026.

Two unedited videos, not audio-only recordings

The qualifying submission must contain two separate, complete and unedited performance videos of the required repertoire for the candidate's particular instrument. A single fixed camera must keep the performer and instrument visible throughout. Applicants provide links through YouTube or Vimeo alongside identification, a high-resolution portrait, a brief biography and repertoire/accompaniment information. The flute, oboe and clarinet pages have different prescribed works, so performers should not copy another instrument's list.

The €100 payment occurs only after selection

A useful distinction in the official regulations is that the €100 entry fee is payable only by those admitted to the live first round. Candidates are notified by 15 January 2027; if admitted, the fee is non-refundable. Travel and accommodation are normally the player's responsibility, although discounted arrangements may be offered. The competition provides pianists, and participants may instead bring their own accompanist.

Prizes and organiser background

The announced six main cash awards run from €15,000 for first place to €2,000 for sixth, with other concert engagements possible. The named 2027 jury includes president Heinz Holliger and renowned clarinetist Sabine Meyer. Organiser Kodály Competition Debrecen publishes previous competitions and detailed round-by-round repertoire, which help applicants check the event's record. Applicants should read each instrument's qualifying works and confirm their video links before the submission deadline.

Official call and application instructions
