Burbank Philharmonic 2027: $1,000 Hennings-Fischer Prize for Strings, Winds, Brass, Harp and Voice
A prize for instrumentalists other than pianists, and singers
The Burbank Philharmonic Orchestra and Hennings-Fischer Foundation are holding their 27th annual Young Artist Competition in Burbank, California. Applicants may be 30 years of age or younger as of the 27 February 2027 finals. The opportunity is open to singers and instrumentalists, including strings, winds, brass and other orchestral solo instruments, but specifically excludes piano competitors. The published application deadline is 22 February 2027.
A full concerto or contrasting arias
Instrumentalists must prepare a full standard-repertoire concerto; memorisation is preferred. Singers prepare three contrasting operatic arias. Candidates must arrange and bring their own accompanist for preliminary and final performances: no official audition pianist is provided. The preliminary rounds take place 25–26 February with a public final on 27 February 2027 at the Salit Conservatory of Music.
Costs, award and rights
The application is made on YAP Tracker with a $35 entry fee; limited fee waivers are available when requested before submission. One or more grand-prize winners are selected for an appearance with the Burbank Philharmonic in a future concert, with total cash prize money of $1,000. The participant release grants the orchestra extensive rights to use names, photos, voice and performance recordings for promotional purposes without additional compensation, a term worth reading before applying.
Institutional history
The Burbank Philharmonic publishes previous competition winners, including vocalists, violinists and cellists who later developed professional careers. Its official competition page and the dated YAP Tracker announcement supply organiser identities, a venue and a clear application route. The award does not automatically cover international flights or immigration requirements; travel and eligibility should be checked with the organiser.
Official call, rules and application
Information reviewed on 23 October 2026. Always confirm current eligibility, deadline and time zone, costs, recording requirements and licence/contract conditions on the organiser's site before submitting or paying.
