The Dunedin Concerto Competition is accepting entries for its fourth edition in 2027. Run by the Dunedin Concerto Competition Charity Trust, it follows competitions in 2021, 2023 and 2025; the last edition involved 33 musicians.

Who can enter

Applicants must be under 24 on 1 December 2026 and be New Zealand citizens, permanent residents, or international students studying in Otago or Southland in 2026 or 2027. They must also meet the rules’ regional residence requirements: at least a year before the preliminary round, or residence during the competition year. Specific provisions cover summer relocations and incoming students, who need proof of enrolment before the preliminary round. Previous winners are ineligible.

Repertoire, dates and costs

Submit a concerto or other work for soloist and orchestra, or complete movements, with a PDF piano reduction. Entries close on 2 December 2026 and cost NZ$100; accompanist fees are additional. Preliminary performances are scheduled for 5–7 March 2027. Three selected finalists perform with orchestra at Dunedin Town Hall on 1 May. The top prizes are NZ$10,000, NZ$5,000 and NZ$3,000.

Use the application form linked from the organiser’s website. Read the repertoire, residence and performance conditions before applying.
