Who is actually eligible for Dudley 2027?

The Dudley International Piano Competition's 2027 edition has an entry deadline of 31 January 2027. It admits pianists of every nationality, but they must be resident in or studying in the British Isles on 24 April 2027 and must have been born on or after 24 April 1992. This crucial residence/study condition makes the contest different from fully open international competitions. Previous first-prize winners, and those taught by a jury member during the twelve months preceding the competition, cannot enter. All selected musicians must be available for the first live stages on 24–25 April and for the 23 May final.

An application, a fee, and an AUDIO recording have separate cutoffs

The published entry fee is £50 and is nonrefundable except if the event is cancelled. The application form and fee must reach the organiser by 31 January. The qualifying audio recording can arrive separately by 21 February 2027. The recording must be recent, 20 to 25 minutes long and contain three contrasting piano works or movements, each performed in one unedited take. The organisers expressly require AUDIO, not VIDEO; concerto movements are not accepted for this recording. Files are delivered via WeTransfer to the competition secretary's email as listed on the source page, rather than uploading a YouTube video. The organisers may subsequently ask for two referees, one normally the applicant's current teacher.

Rounds and repertoire in Birmingham

No more than eighteen candidates are selected for the preliminary round at Royal Birmingham Conservatoire on Saturday 24 April. Each has up to twenty minutes and prepares a Bach prelude and fugue or Scarlatti sonata, a movement of a Classical sonata by Haydn, Mozart or Beethoven, and a study or substantial Romantic/modern work. Eight semifinalists play professionally planned recitals of up to forty-five minutes on Sunday 25 April. Three finalists will perform at the Elgar Concert Hall, University of Birmingham, on 23 May. Performers may choose whether to play from memory; the rules also require score copies and consent for livestreaming.

Established organiser, expenses and prize caution

Dudley International Piano Competition is a registered UK charity with a history stretching back decades, supported by the Limoges Charitable Trust; the pianist Vladimir Ashkenazy is listed as patron and John Humphreys as chair/artistic director. Past editions have given substantial cash prizes and concert engagements, including possible concerto opportunities, but previous-year prize amounts should not be promised for 2027 unless the organisers reconfirm them. All contestants are responsible for their own travel and accommodation. Applicants should use the official Enter page for the correct form, bank/PayPal options, published secretary details and competition regulations; do not send fees to intermediaries.
