Yomiuri Nippon Symphony Orchestra seeks an assistant principal second violin｜Due 24 December 2026
The Yomiuri Nippon Symphony Orchestra is recruiting a small number of assistant principal second violin players. The position covers the second desk and top-side duties in the second violin section. Applicants must possess the performance ability and professional character expected of an orchestral musician. Anyone still enrolled in a university, graduate programme, academy or similar institution on the closing date must include two sealed recommendation letters from current teachers or equivalent referees.
Deadline and application
Documents must arrive by Thursday, 24 December 2026. Applicants sending materials from outside Japan must dispatch them by 10 December using EMS, FedEx or DHL; other overseas delivery methods are not accepted. Request the orchestra’s application form by email using the required subject line and include your name, mailing address and contact details. Domestic applications must be sent by registered post. The official requirements do not state an application fee.
Audition and terms
The first audition is on 3 February 2027, with 2 February used as an additional day if applications are numerous; the second audition is on 4 February. The venue is the orchestra’s rehearsal facility in Kawasaki. Round one uses Mozart Violin Concerto No. 4 or No. 5 plus orchestral excerpts; round two uses the first movement of Beethoven’s Violin Concerto plus excerpts. Candidates arrange their own accompanist. Successful candidates normally complete a six-month test period before the final decision. The stated salary model for a 23-year-old regular member is JPY 266,000 per month, plus an assistant-principal allowance, with experience increments, bonuses and retirement at 60.
