Opportunity and eligibility

Swiss contemporary-music ensemble UMS’nJIP is seeking proposals for new works for recorder and voice, with or without electronics, to be premiered at the 2027 Forum Wallis International Contemporary Music Festival in Münster/Goms, Switzerland. Up to five composers will be selected to develop pieces in close collaboration with the performers. No age or style restrictions are listed, and the call does not restrict nationality. The selected music will receive a live performance and a high-quality recording, with preparatory meetings conducted in person or by Zoom.

Materials and application process

Instead of a completed new score, applicants submit a proposal of about 250 words outlining the musical idea, story or narrative, the intended text source and possible electronic elements. Include access to two existing scores written within the last five years and a recording for each; live recordings are preferred but MIDI is acceptable. Add a biography of no more than 200 words, email, phone number and availability for in-person workshops. Combine everything in one PDF and make sure the work-sample portfolio link remains accessible through December 15. Composers with an existing recorder-and-voice composition may offer it for performance consideration. Clear any copyrighted poetry or other text.

Apply without an entry fee by November 15, 2026. Email the single PDF to info@umsnjip.ch with subject 'Call for Proposals - Ensemble UMS’nJIP'. Selections are expected December 15, workshops begin in the second half of December, final new compositions are due March 15, 2027, and concerts and recordings are planned for May or June. Proposals of any duration are allowed, although 5–15 minutes is encouraged. The organiser explicitly offers no travel stipend, so remote collaboration is important for applicants abroad; no cash-prize package is advertised.
