Tribeca New Music 2027 Young Composer Competition: US-Only, $1,000 Awards, Jan 8 Deadline
About the opportunity and eligibility
Tribeca New Music (TNM) and its partner Access Contemporary Music invite US citizens or permanent residents aged 35 or younger to the 2027 Young Composer Competition. Unlike globally open calls, this competition has a firm national eligibility requirement even if an artist currently lives abroad. Division 1 includes composers born January 1, 1991 through December 31, 2004, and Division 2 those born after December 31, 2004. Each division's first prize offers US$1,000 and professional presentations in New York City at the TNM Festival and in Chicago at ACM's The CheckOut, plus an audio/video recording.
How to apply and work requirements
Submit an original work of no more than fifteen minutes for one to five players. The instrumentation may combine woodwinds, brass, percussion, acoustic or electric guitar, accordion, harp, piano, violin, viola, cello or bass; traditional doublings and electronic/computer accompaniment are allowed. Previously professionally published scores are ineligible but self-published scores remain eligible. Include a legible full score PDF without individual parts, an MP3 recording or streaming link (computer-rendered audio is accepted but not a raw MIDI upload), a composer biography of at most 250 words with contact details, and programme notes of at most 250 words. Up to four entries per composer are permitted.
Deadline, costs, benefits and rights
Applications opened October 15, 2026 and close Friday, January 8, 2027 at 11 p.m. EST. Pay the non-refundable US$35 fee per submitted piece through the official online application. A winning composition is expected to be announced February 19, 2027. First-prize and honourable-mention works may also enter the Composer Circle online showcase, with the organiser's permission and rights arrangements. The programme is not open to overseas composers without US citizenship or permanent residence, and a prize is not guaranteed to every applicant.
