Reaching the Limits Vol. 4: Cyprus Composer Residency for Flute, Clarinet and Percussion
Ritual Opera Collective and Culture Tones Organization have announced Reaching the Limits, Volume 4, a contemporary-music residency with the PATSIAOURA ensemble in Larnaka, Cyprus, in February 2027. The proposal deadline is 8 November 2026. International applicants of all nationalities and genders are welcomed, provided they were born in 1997 or later. The opportunity is designed to produce an original piece through collaboration, not to select an already completed composition.
Instrumentation and the new-work requirement
The planned score must last approximately seven to ten minutes and use flute, clarinet or bass clarinet, and percussion. The published percussion list includes drums, cymbals, waterphone, vibraphone, glockenspiel and smaller instruments. A previous work cannot be resubmitted as the final residency piece: candidates propose a new composition specifically for this group.
What to submit
The organizer requests two score samples, with recordings where available, plus a brief proposed-composition statement or a video statement under two minutes. Applicants should supply a high-resolution photograph and a CV shorter than three pages. One sample should show the composer's general writing, while another should demonstrate an approach close to the ensemble's instrumentation. Scores and supporting materials should make the planned project realistically rehearsable.
Residency support and costs
Selected composers are invited to the 14–19 February 2027 rehearsal residency. The programme offers private en-suite accommodation, rehearsals, coaching with composer/conductor Andys Skordis and a professionally documented performance scheduled for 20 February. Travel expenses will not be reimbursed, so international applicants need their own travel budget or separate grant. In-person participation is strongly encouraged but not compulsory.
Key dates and reliable organizer information
Selected composers are scheduled to be announced on 15 November 2026; completed score and parts are due 1 February 2027. The ULYSSES Platform lists the call and links to the participating ensemble and application form. Applicants should confirm whether any schedule or instrument availability has changed at the original registration link before submitting.
