RCM Junior Department Edmond Fivet Competition 2027: Year 11–13 Entries by 25 November
The Edmond Fivet Competition (formerly the Gordon Turner Competition) is one of the Royal College of Music Junior Department's internal instrumental performance awards. Its 2026–27 call is limited to current first-study students in school Years 11 to 13 or the RCMJD Extension Year. It is a separate competition from RCMJD's Barbara Boissard Junior Concerto Competition, which serves younger students and uses concerto movements.
Entry window and eligible musicians
The student entry form must be submitted by the end of Wednesday 25 November 2026. Teacher approval and any required piano accompaniment materials are due by 5pm on Saturday 28 November. Only current RCMJD first-study students in the specified senior year groups or Extension Year can participate; an external musician who does not attend the Junior Department is not eligible. The school sends its online form to eligible parents or guardians and teachers.
Programme rules and live rounds
Each performance has ten minutes including walking on and off stage and tuning, so performing time is no more than approximately nine minutes. RCMJD suggests one or two contrasting pieces, but up to four are permitted if the total slot is respected. Finalists perform the same repertoire as in the preliminary round. Rehearsals are scheduled for 30 January and 6 February 2027, and preliminary rounds for Saturdays 20 and 27 February 2027. The school page lists a final-round year that appears inconsistent with this 2027 schedule; participants should obtain the corrected final date directly from the department.
About the organiser and its record
The Royal College of Music in London provides conservatoire training, concerts and ensemble opportunities through its Junior Department. Its published annual programme comprises nine distinct internal competitions, including concerto, instrumental, strings, piano, chamber-music and composition events. The Edmond Fivet award has its own age range and repertoire rules, distinguishing it from the junior concerto call.
How to apply and verify
Use only the invitation and application form distributed through RCMJD. Submit the required original accompaniment parts and secure the teacher's approval within the separate deadline. The department's official webpage contains the current competition regulations, programme guidance and any timetable corrections. Entry is confined to UK-based RCMJD students rather than an international public call.
