RCM Junior Department Barbara Boissard Concerto Competition 2027: Year 9–10 Entry by 18 November
The Royal College of Music Junior Department (RCMJD) in London is accepting internal entries for its Barbara Boissard Junior Concerto Competition, to be held on Saturday 30 January 2027. The competition is open only to existing first-study students in school Years 9 and 10 at RCMJD, not to all young musicians worldwide.
Entry eligibility and closing dates
Applicants must be current Royal College of Music Junior Department students studying their main instrument in school Year 9 or Year 10. The student online entry must be completed by the end of Wednesday 18 November 2026; the teacher's approval and accompaniment materials must follow by 5pm on Saturday 21 November. The school's internal entry link is sent to eligible families and teachers by email; no open external application form is advertised.
Performance format and important dates
A candidate prepares a single concerto movement or a substantial work for soloist and orchestra. A slow movement is permitted. Each competition slot lasts ten minutes including arrival on stage, tuning and exit, leaving a maximum of approximately nine minutes of performance. Published rehearsal Saturdays are 16 and 23 January 2027; the competition begins at 9am on Saturday 30 January.
About the organiser
The Royal College of Music is a London conservatoire with a Junior Department providing music education to school-age performers. RCMJD lists nine named internal competitions alongside ensembles, concerts and training activities. The institution itself publishes the eligibility, teacher-approval process and repertoire expectations for the Barbara Boissard award.
Submission route and verification
Eligible students and parents should use the internal application link sent through their RCMJD teacher and supply all required accompaniment parts and any supporting documents by the stated dates. The official department page and its linked competition regulations—not third-party public sign-up sites—are the authoritative source for rules, fees and acceptance. This event has a UK-based student affiliation requirement; it is not a publicly open international concerto call.
