Pegasus: The Orchestra 2026–27 International Composition Call: Free, $1,000 Prize
Opportunity and eligibility
New York-based Pegasus: The Orchestra is accepting the second International Call for Works for its tenth-anniversary season. Unlike the inaugural US-only edition, this call explicitly invites composers aged 18 and above from any nationality and country of residence. A winning orchestral work will be premiered March 12, 2027 at Merkin Hall in New York, with professional audio and video recording that its composer may use for promotion and professional portfolios.
Instrumentation and materials
The required score is an original orchestral work between five and eight minutes, not published, publicly performed, commercially recorded or previously awarded. The permitted maximum forces include two each of flutes, oboes, clarinets and bassoons, four horns, two trumpets, three trombones, tuba, timpani and two additional percussionists, plus strings up to 6/6/5/5/3. Smaller ensembles within that palette are fine. Email an anonymous PDF score, one paragraph about the piece, and a mandatory MIDI recording to helena.mirzoyan@gmail.com. The score must not reveal the composer's identity, whereas the separate email includes a biography, birth date, contact details and address.
Dates, costs, prizes and conditions
Deadline December 15, 2026, with no application fee. First prize is US$1,000 plus premiere and recording, along with up to $500 travel support for an out-of-state or international winner. Second prize $500 and an opportunity for a separate chamber piece to be performed; third prize $200. Results are expected by January 15, 2027, and the winner must supply performance-ready instrumental parts by January 25. Do not use the rules of the inaugural edition, which had different geographic eligibility and orchestration.
