NXNE 2027 Opens Free Global Applications for Bands and Independent Musicians
Showcase opportunity
North by Northeast (NXNE), Toronto's multi-venue festival, is recruiting emerging solo musicians and bands for June 16–20, 2027. Artists play music showcases in clubs across downtown Toronto and gain opportunities to be heard by local listeners and visiting industry delegates.
International eligibility
The organizer explicitly discusses international NXNE artists and entry documents for musicians traveling to Canada, in addition to welcoming emerging acts from Canada and around the world. This is therefore an international music call, not a Canadian-residents-only programme. Individual festival showcases are normally scheduled as approximately 40-minute performances.
Application documents
Apply exclusively through the NXNE artist application portal linked from the festival's official website. The organization does not accept application materials by email. The form asks for details about the act and the music, and successful applicants receive a separate offer letter; sending a form does not amount to a performance contract.
Deadlines and performance rules
Applications close on December 31, 2026; the linked portal specifies 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time. Offers typically begin in January 2027 and continue while programming is finalized during March or April. Due to the volume of entries, the organizer says it may not be able to reply individually to unsuccessful submissions.
Fees and performance conditions
There is no application fee. Selected artists may choose between a cash honorarium of C$100 for a solo act or C$150 for a band and a festival Artist VIP option, with compensation confirmed on acceptance. Festival passes and potential discounted hotel rates are among the benefits. Artists from overseas must arrange appropriate travel documentation, and full travel or accommodation costs are not promised as covered.
