National Children's Choir of Great Britain 2027: Free November Auditions for Singers Aged 9+
The National Children's Choir of Great Britain (NCCGB) is accepting applications for its November 2026 audition sessions, which select new members for residential choir courses in 2027. Audition booking is free with support from The Vinehill Trust. This is a membership and training pathway, not a paid professional singing job, and families should understand the course attendance commitments before reserving a slot.
Age and recommendation requirements
Children must be at least nine years old at their first Easter course. A letter of recommendation from a singing teacher, music teacher or choir conductor is required when the audition is booked, not only if a place is offered. The letter should explain relevant musical achievements and current activity. Candidates can book auditions in different UK locations while spaces last, but the choir closes booking at each venue when capacity is reached; families can ask to be wait-listed for a full venue.
A twenty-minute audition, with a prepared song
Children perform one song from memory, accompanied, lasting no more than three minutes. The session also includes listening and aural activities, such as musical-memory exercises and singing chords. Applicants in Year 7 and above undertake an additional sight-singing task. The official website provides sample sight-reading materials. Applicants should therefore choose a comfortable, expressive piece and prepare musicianship as well as vocal tone.
Mandatory residential weeks in 2027
NCCGB expects new members to attend the first residential course, 28 March–3 April 2027, at Bromsgrove School. A summer course is scheduled for 8–14 August 2027. Families should only apply if the spring week is feasible, and should separately check course charges, bursary options, supervision arrangements and accommodation. An audition being free does not mean all future residential training is free.
The organizer and its educational programme
NCCGB runs national-level choral training, residential courses, school workshops and occasional international tours. Its public audition page explains the evaluation format and the commitment expected of choir members, while its joining page explains the minimum age and booking process. Confirm a location's availability on the live booking form rather than relying on a static list of November venues.
