Hull International Choir Competition 2027: World Choirs Apply by 7 December, Festival 30 April–4 May
Hull in Yorkshire, England, will host an international choral competition from 30 April to 4 May 2027. INTERKULTUR has opened registration to choirs from many countries, with the regular closing date on 7 December 2026. The programme combines judged choral performances with optional artistic evaluation, individual coaching and friendship concerts. Choir managers should budget carefully: a choir's registration payment is not the complete cost of attending.
Who can participate, and which categories matter?
The official categories cover mixed choirs and equal-voice choirs at different levels, children's and youth choirs, and sacred a cappella repertoire. For choirs wishing to focus on traditional classical literature or school music, the A, B, G and S categories are the most directly relevant. There is also a broad popular-style category, but specialist repertoire must be matched to its formal eligibility and scoring rules. Singers need not all belong to a professional ensemble: the event is built around community, educational and established choirs.
Regular choir fee: €300, plus participant packages
The early-bird offer of €150 for a first activity expired on 28 September 2026. The normal price now published for the first selected activity is €300 per choir, with €200 for an additional activity. Nonlocal groups must also purchase an event package per person through the authorized service partner; packages include accommodation and other event services. Choirs within approximately 200 km of Hull that do not require overnight stays may pay the regional participant fee instead. Fees depend on country grouping and travel plans, so ask for a complete quotation before registering.
Options for non-competitive ensembles
A choir that does not wish to enter a ranked category may choose festival participation, friendship concerts or an evaluation performance. An evaluation involves three works and a professional discussion of strengths and improvement needs. For friendship concerts, prepare roughly fifteen minutes of music and obtain artistic approval in advance. Some performances are outdoors, and the organizer cautions that bad weather may force cancellations without a guaranteed replacement.
Why this is a recognizable organizer
INTERKULTUR organizes international choir contests and World Choir Games events. Its own archives document Hull editions in 2023 and 2025 and display participant accounts and media. This helps applicants assess continuity, but they should still read the specific 2027 participation booklet and latest visa rules. Where visas are required, the organizers issue supporting invitation letters only after registration, the necessary payments and a completed participant list, so plan travel well in advance.
