The Leeds International Piano Competition in the United Kingdom has opened applications for its 22nd edition. The International First Round runs March 30–April 6, 2027 in seven global cities, followed by the Leeds rounds September 8–18. Expanded age eligibility and no mandatory prescribed pieces allow applicants to shape a distinctive artistic programme. Pianists from any country can apply if they meet the precise birth-date limits.
Eligibility and competition rounds
Applicants must have been born from September 19, 1991 through March 30, 2007 inclusive, and previous Leeds first-prize winners are not eligible. A confidential anonymous preselection based on recorded performances will identify sixty pianists for in-person auditions in Beijing, Berlin, London, New York, Paris, Seoul or Vienna. Twenty-four reach Leeds, ten reach the semifinal and five perform a concerto in the September 17–18 final.
Authenticity of recordings and supporting documents
Provide 20–25 minutes of audio recorded within twelve months before the application deadline, captured as a continuous unedited performance. Splicing, pitch or timing correction, AI enhancement and simulated performances are prohibited. A simultaneous fixed-camera video verifies authenticity rather than being separately judged for visual production. Applicants also supply identity and age evidence, two referees, a biography, promotional photograph, recording supervisor declaration and repertoire for future stages.
Application fees, deadline and travel
The regular deadline is October 31, 2026 at 23:59 GMT; late submissions can be filed until November 7 at 23:59 GMT for an additional nonrefundable fee. Confirm the current exact amounts in the official application system. Competitors fund their own international first-round travel, accommodation and visas. Those who progress to Leeds receive housing, meals and local transportation, plus a limited contribution to qualifying travel costs based on documented receipts. Selection and prize outcomes are not guaranteed.
