Festival overview

The 25th Electronic Music Midwest Festival (EMM) has launched an international call for electroacoustic works for February 4–6, 2027 at Kansas City Kansas Community College, United States. The festival plans concert diffusion through a 8.1.4 immersive speaker configuration and features guest pianist Shiau-uen Ding. The opportunity is suited to sound artists and experimental musicians using spatial audio, electronics, instrumental performance and interactive technology.

Eligible musical formats

Proposals include solo piano with fixed media or live electronics (but extensive prepared piano is not feasible), fixed or live electroacoustic works using up to 8.1.4 channels, instruments or voices combined with electronics, audiovisual compositions, sound installations and interactive media, and live laptop pieces. For performing ensembles, the artist is responsible for securing the appropriate live players and electronic arrangements. Installation artists must provide equipment not normally available at the venue.

Entry materials and restrictions

Applicants of any nationality may enter one work each. Works must be shorter than 20 minutes, with pieces over 12 minutes rarely programmed. Multi-channel projects must provide a stereo downmix at the New Music Engine application stage; accepted creators subsequently bring the complete playback masters. Any live-instrument or voice piece requires both score and recording for judging. For projects with video, provide a video-platform link in the dedicated video field; this field cannot be used merely to link audio.

Deadline, costs and attendance

The deadline is October 20, 2026. There is no fee to submit a work for consideration, but composers whose works are accepted must **attend the festival** and pay a US$75 on-site registration fee, with only one fee for collaborations. Limited hardship waivers may be available. EMM specifically states it cannot provide travel stipends or artist honoraria, so flights, accommodation and other personal costs should be budgeted separately rather than assumed covered.
