The 17th Dutch International Flute Competition has announced its 2027 performance and audition schedule in conjunction with the 20th International Adams Flute Festival in Ittervoort, Netherlands. There are two different deadlines: online pre-registration closes on 1 January 2027, while qualifying videos must be submitted by 1 February. The festival's live stages take place from 13 to 18 April. Applications principally target flute students studying for bachelor or master degrees internationally, younger talents and piccolo students. This is not a general audition for a paid professional orchestra position.

Competition categories

  • Flute bachelor students at conservatories in any country.

  • Flute master students from international music academies.

  • Young talent instrumentalists up to and including age 13, and another category for ages 14–18.

  • Piccolo students, with separate 2027 rules and a live final on 15 April.

  • Applicants should check exact school-enrolment evidence and the 2027 participant regulations before registering.

Complete 2027 calendar

  • 1 January 2027: online pre-registration closes.

  • 1 February: deadline for submitted videos.

  • 1 March: live-round selection announcement.

  • 13–14 April: live second round; 15 April: third round and piccolo final.

  • 17 April: bachelor and master grand final with orchestra under Carlo Jans and the winners' concert.

  • 18 April: live final for younger talent.

  • 23 June: selected prizewinner performance in Amsterdam's Concertgebouw Recital Hall.

The prizes are vouchers and musical opportunities

The bachelor and master categories give Adams Muziekcentrale instrument and accessory vouchers worth €2,000 for first place, €1,000 for second and €500 for third. The organisers also advertise opportunities in international flute courses and a Powell masterclass. Young talent prizes include flutes, piccolos and vouchers, some marked by the organiser as still subject to confirmation. A selected laureate is invited to perform at the Concertgebouw in June. These vouchers and engagements should not be presented as unrestricted cash payments.

Entry fee and accommodation

The official 2027 overview provides downloadable participation and payment rules, but does not display a single confirmed fee for every age group; candidates should consult the current document before paying. The organisers offer basic group lodging at Bekerhof for €60 per night, including meals, bedding and transport from the hostel to the event venue. It is not private five-star accommodation, and international travel and insurance are not automatically included. Budget realistically before buying non-refundable tickets.

Video repertoire and organiser identity

Video repertoire and live works are specified per category and change between editions. The foundation warns candidates to download the current repertoire and participant documents. For video auditions, ensure that the performer and hands are visible and the musical performance is not misrepresented by editing. Organised by Stichting Nationaal Fluitconcours, the event has run for many years and publishes results from more than twenty countries, alongside jury names and named Dutch contacts. About 150 flute students participate in a typical year.
