Czech Philharmonic Tuba Audition 2027: Full-Time Vacancy, Applications Close 17 December
Full-time tuba position in Prague
The Czech Philharmonic is recruiting a tuba player for a full-time orchestral position, with the start date to be agreed with the successful candidate. Applications close on 17 December 2026. The audition is scheduled for 29 January 2027 at the Rudolfinum in Prague. The vacancy is advertised directly by the orchestra and its chief conductor and music director, Semyon Bychkov.
Prescreening video requirements
The first stage includes a link to video material uploaded to YouTube. Recordings must be no more than one year old, and the concerto segment must have piano accompaniment. The required material is the first and second movements of Ralph Vaughan Williams' Concerto for Tuba and an orchestral excerpt from Bedřich Smetana's Vyšehrad. Preparing both the solo and orchestral components is important for obtaining an invitation.
First and second live audition rounds
The first live round is behind a curtain and includes the entire Vaughan Williams concerto, cadenzas included, together with published passages from Smetana, Janáček, Mahler, Wagner and Respighi. The second round is not blind. It includes the entire Lebedev Tuba Concerto No. 1 for contrabass tuba and further orchestral excerpts from Stravinsky, Mussorgsky/Ravel, Berlioz, Mendelssohn, Bruckner and other repertoire. The list on the official site is the authoritative repertoire reference.
About the orchestra

How to apply
Apply via the Czech Philharmonic's official vacancy link and provide all required video and professional details by the deadline.
