An international creation and learning grant for European musicians

Culture Moves Europe's 2026–27 individual mobility call is open to artists and cultural professionals who are legally resident in one of the Creative Europe participating countries. Music is one of its eligible sectors, alongside visual arts, design, literature, theatre and related practices. The European Commission announced the new application cycle on 1 October 2026. Individuals aged at least eighteen and groups of up to five people may apply, provided they have a real partner in a different eligible Creative Europe country.

This opportunity is not a jazz-only audition or an unrestricted global touring grant. Applicants must have a project with an international collaborator pursuing at least two objectives from exploring, creating, learning and connecting. Travel used exclusively to play a standard booked concert or present an already finished programme without a collaborative project does not meet the programme's purpose.

Funding rates and limits: daily allowance versus travel support

The current 2026–27 EU page specifies a fixed **€85 per project day** for accommodation, local transport and ordinary subsistence. Travel support is €400 for distances under 5,000 kilometres and €800 beyond 5,000 kilometres, using the distance calculation in the application system. Additional support can apply for greener travel, family circumstances, visas and accessibility; these additions depend on proof and the published rules.

These amounts are not an unlimited artist fee or prize. They are flat-rate mobility components calculated using approved travel and project days. A musician should distinguish them from costs such as studio rental, collaborators' wages and an unrelated tour. The host partner's role, the destination and the length of the proposed collaboration must all be plausible.

The mobility must involve a partner and a creative objective

The eligible 2026–27 call expects a letter of invitation or other evidence of a named partner in the destination country. A partner may be another musician, cultural institution, recording or artistic research organisation, ensemble or venue with whom the actual project is being implemented. Potential projects include collaborative songwriting, learning new production techniques with a specialist, creative exchange with musicians from another country, or shared work across performance and digital media.

These are illustrative ideas, not pre-approved activities. Applicants should document what will change through the exchange and why the mobility is essential. A plan written only to attend an unrelated festival, with no creative or learning collaborator, should be revised before applying.

Monthly deadlines and mandatory supporting documents

The live application deadlines are 31 October and 30 November 2026, followed by 31 January, 28 February, 31 March and 30 April 2027. The first upcoming monthly selection deadline is therefore 31 October 2026. The website states that the grant process uses a Goethe-Application Portal account registered as an 'individual', even if several musicians apply together.

The required materials include identification, proof of legal residency, a short CV, selected portfolio examples and a letter from the overseas partner. Applications are completed in English; online translation tools are expressly allowed and the organisers say English fluency itself is not evaluated. Individual submissions can cover 7–60 days of mobility, while groups have a shorter allowed period specified in the call.

The EU and Goethe-Institut are responsible for the programme

Culture Moves Europe is funded by the European Union's Creative Europe programme and administered by the Goethe-Institut. The 2025–28 mobility programme's overall budget is €25 million and the Commission has published beneficiaries and project results from earlier rounds. The transparent application portal, deadlines and published support rates provide evidence of a genuine public scheme.
