Canadian Music International Co-productions 2026: Canada Council Funding Closes 4 November
The Canada Council for the Arts is accepting applications for 'International Co-productions' under Arts Across Canada and Abroad. This support helps CANADIAN artistic groups and arts organisations develop NEW ARTISTIC WORKS or exhibitions with organisations based abroad. An eligible collaborative music-production or sound-art project may be worth exploring when there is a substantive foreign artistic partnership.
APPLICATION DATE — The official schedule lists 15 April and WEDNESDAY 4 NOVEMBER 2026. November 4 is the next deadline as of 23 October. The client portal supplies the controlling submission time, required activity dates and updated programme documents.
WHO MUST LEAD? — The public description specifically identifies artistic groups and arts organisations FROM CANADA partnering with FOREIGN ARTS ORGANISATIONS. It is not an unrestricted cash grant for a foreign production company, and a solo composer must check whether an eligible Canadian artistic entity can be a principal applicant under the formal opportunity.
CO-PRODUCTION VERSUS FOREIGN TOUR — International Co-productions is for jointly DEVELOPING new creative work across borders; Foreign Artist Tours instead helps present touring work by artists from outside Canada to Canadian audiences. A project consisting only of purchasing an existing international concert should not be submitted to the collaborative creation category without a new co-production component.
MUSIC EXAMPLES TO EVALUATE — Jointly creating a new transnational music-theatre production, original interdisciplinary sonic work, musical performance with a meaningful shared development process, or a new contemporary concert collaboration could qualify if it meets the funder's arts criteria. Conventional commercial record marketing or generic outsourcing is not the same as an artistic co-production.
AMOUNT AND COST RULES — The public landing page does not state a universal award cap for this stream. Applicants should study the client portal for eligible Canadian and foreign artist fees, creation and workshop costs, production partnerships, presentation planning, shared financing and whether a co-producer contribution is needed. Awards depend on assessment and available funds.
APPLICATION MATERIALS — Prepare a co-production concept, names and track records of the Canadian and international partners, letters or agreements establishing collaborative responsibilities, a work schedule and premiere/presentation plan, itemised budget and financing, plus licensing and credit rules for composition, recordings, audiovisual elements and other creative material.
THE ORGANISER — Canada Council for the Arts is a Canadian national agency supporting professional arts creation and circulation. Its current grant system was reorganised in 2025 and maintains distinct opportunities for international collaboration, professional development, representation and artist touring.
