BYMT Performer Auditions 2027: Singing, Acting and Movement for Ages 11–21
British Youth Music Theatre (BYMT) has published its 2027 programme of performer auditions for young people aged 11–21 who enjoy singing, acting, movement and musical theatre. Two online auditions are scheduled for 8 and 14 November 2026, followed by in-person workshops in cities across the United Kingdom and Ireland during January and February 2027. Applicants do not need to arrive with a polished audition song or monologue: the three-hour audition is a creative workshop in which new material is learned and explored collectively.
What is different from BYMT musician auditions?
Performer auditions are intended for people seeking to join the cast on stage, developing singing, acting and movement. BYMT separately holds musician auditions for instrumentalists who want to play in a pit band or on-stage ensemble. The experience levels, fees and dates differ. Someone whose principal strength is an instrument should consider the musician route; a young singer or actor with interest in musical theatre can explore the performer process even without previous industry experience.
Dates and locations for the 2027 audition tour
The official current schedule lists online audition workshops on Sunday 8 November and Saturday 14 November 2026. In-person auditions begin on 16 January 2027, with dates advertised for locations including Dublin, Hull, Belfast, Leeds, Southampton, Plymouth, Bristol, Birmingham, Aberdeen, Glasgow, Oxford, Manchester and Swansea. Some London dates are already marked sold out on the organiser's schedule, so availability must be checked for the exact location rather than assuming that every session has spaces.
Group workshop: learn, sing and move
The audition lasts around three hours. Participants warm up, work with scenes and improvise in small groups, then learn a new song and a related movement sequence. Staff observe how applicants listen, adapt, work as part of a company and develop unfamiliar material. BYMT's FAQ says that applicants do not need to prepare any song or acting text in advance. Comfortable loose clothing, suitable shoes and water are sensible; focus on engaging honestly with new tasks rather than memorising an elaborate solo routine.
Age conditions and prior experience
The published general age range is 11 to 21. A child who is not yet 11 may audition if they will be 11 by the beginning of the production; similarly an applicant close to 22 must not turn 22 until after their production has concluded. There is no minimum professional experience required. This makes the audition suitable for young people coming from school choir, drama clubs, dance classes, informal singing or combinations of these activities, as well as those who already perform in youth theatre.
Fees: £30 online, £45 in person
The booking fee is non-refundable and costs £30 for an online workshop or £45 for an in-person audition. These amounts are audition charges, not guaranteed tuition or production participation prices. If accepted into a musical-theatre production, separate residential course fees may apply. BYMT's family information explains that bursaries and instalment plans are available; households meeting published means-test thresholds should ask about financial assistance rather than assuming that a successful audition makes participation entirely free.
After the audition
The organisation matches applicants to productions according to musical, dramatic and ensemble needs. Participants may receive a production offer, remain under consideration or receive an unsuccessful outcome. The FAQ aims to respond by the end of February. The page still refers in some sections to the 2026 season even though it now advertises the 2027 audition calendar; applicants should use the live booking's 2027 schedule, and request the correct season's offer letter and fees if selected.
