Astor Piazzolla International Competition 2027: Global Tango, Bandoneon, Voice and Online Entries
Competition overview
The International Competition ASTOR PIAZZOLLA returns to Como, Italy, April 9–11, 2027, celebrating one of Argentine tango's most influential composers. Instrumental soloists, singers and chamber ensembles of any nationality or age may participate. New features of the second edition include a dedicated bandoneon solo category and a separate fully online performance competition, supporting musicians who cannot travel internationally.
Live and online performance
Live performance entries focus on Piazzolla's original works or transcriptions and arrangements of his music. The initial selection is by video; selected live competitors must attend the April 10–11 semifinal and final rounds in Como. The online performance competition, in contrast, can be completed remotely and announces results on April 11. An online first round for the live competition does not remove its later attendance obligation, so read the relevant registration category carefully.
Composition opportunity
The composition division seeks traditional or modern tango pieces up to ten minutes, written for approved instruments including bandoneon, accordion, piano, violin, classical guitar, strings and voice or Piazzolla quintet. A previously performed or recorded work can be submitted, but a composition whose sheet music was already published cannot. Send a PDF score and an audio performance or MIDI realization corresponding to the score. Up to ten finalists are judged in Como without requiring the composers to be present.
Deadlines, fees and outcomes
Live and online performance applications close March 1, 2027 at 23:59 CET, while compositions close February 1 at 23:59 CET. The current 2027 composition rules specify a non-refundable €60 per work, or €65 via PayPal. Older published performance-fee tables may belong to an earlier edition; verify the current live or online performance registration fee before paying. Selected winners may gain professional concert engagements or music publication, whereas cash awards, flights and accommodation are not guaranteed for all entrants.
