Annapolis Opera Vocal Competition 2027: Over $15,000 Prizes, US Residents Only, Apply by 28 December
An explicitly US-resident vocal competition
The Annapolis Opera Vocal Competition is accepting entries until 28 December 2026 from singers aged 20–35 on the finals date of 18 April 2027. The rules require applicants to be permanent residents of the United States and not to be currently, previously or imminently under professional management. Former first-prize winners may not reenter. It is therefore incorrect to describe this as an unrestricted worldwide opera competition, even though singers of various nationalities may reside in the United States.
Audio-only blind first round
The initial anonymous selection uses three unedited opera arias in audio format accompanied by piano, with at least one aria in English. Oratorio arias and art songs are excluded. The judges will not initially see résumés or headshots, which are still included for administration. Selected semifinalists submit three unedited video arias; finalists prepare five arias for the public live event, selecting one themselves before judges choose the next.
Finalists' support and real prize structure
The final is in Annapolis, Maryland, on 18 April 2027. The competition advertises a total prize pool of more than US$15,000, with every finalist receiving some prize money. Finalists have access to a competition pianist, a US$150 travel stipend and housing hosted by patrons. Those provisions do not amount to unlimited international travel reimbursement and do not replace the US residency rule.
