Culture Ireland is accepting applications to its Regular Grant Scheme for professional Irish artists and arts organisations planning to present their work to audiences outside the island of Ireland. The next closing time is 23:59 on Thursday 5 November 2026. The round covers eligible international presentations taking place from 15 February 2027 onward. For Irish musicians, this can mean a confirmed concert, festival appearance or other publicly accessible professional engagement abroad—but it is not a general bursary for recording an album or travelling without an overseas presenting partner.

Music projects this grant is designed to support

Culture Ireland supports a wide range of art forms including music, opera, theatre, dance, film and visual arts. Within music, its published eligibility examples explicitly include performances by professional musicians and ensembles at significant overseas venues or festivals. The scheme is not limited to classical music: a professional folk group, contemporary jazz ensemble or other Irish musical project may be eligible when its international presentation meets the artistic, financial and operational criteria.

The key is an actual event outside Ireland with an audience and a viable presenting structure. For example, a band with a confirmed slot at an overseas festival can explain the host's invitation, the performance fee and the travel cost it wishes to cover. A musician who simply hopes to book a tour later has a weaker fit unless the prospective dates, venue or partner can be properly evidenced. Artistic merit matters, but an unsupported or speculative travel plan is not enough.

Who is eligible to apply?

The formal criteria identify Irish professional artists and arts organisations, or international presenters acting on their behalf. The international partner or overseas presenter must offer an artist fee and assist with the promotion and presentation of the event. Work by non-professional artists and events of an amateur or competitive nature are excluded. Having an artist of Irish origin in an otherwise unrelated project does not by itself override the scheme's professional, presentation and partnership requirements.

The public event must occur outside the island of Ireland; a festival appearance in Dublin, Belfast or elsewhere on the island does not meet the international-location requirement. The audience must be able to attend openly, and the event must be promoted. Closed educational workshops, private practice and personal study opportunities should not be presented as eligible public performances.

Costs covered: travel and the practical expense of presentation

The Regular Grant Scheme usually contributes to travel-related costs directly associated with an overseas presentation. The agency names transport, freight, accommodation and subsistence as examples. An Irish jazz band travelling with instruments may therefore need to budget both people's journeys and equipment freight; a singer may have a different mix of costs. Requests should correspond to necessary, supportable items and show other income and financial commitments from the promoter.

The agency specifically lists production costs, residencies, bursaries, conferences, professional training, rehearsals (except that technical rehearsals may be considered), research and events that have already taken place as ineligible. This distinction is essential: Culture Ireland is not replacing studio production financing, a self-directed songwriting residency or the fee an overseas promoter is expected to pay performers.

Deadline and minimum start date

The current application deadline is 5 November 2026 at 23:59. Culture Ireland has announced four grant rounds during 2026 and does not accept applications outside its published submission windows. The November round is specifically for international presentations from 15 February 2027 onward. Applicants with a concert before that date should not assume the new deadline retroactively covers it; they need to consult the scheme's correct activity windows.

The scheme does not announce a universal flat grant payment or an automatic amount per musician. Awards depend on an assessment of the proposed event and an overall limited budget. Winning an overseas performance opportunity and obtaining a Culture Ireland grant are separate outcomes, so international travel should not be booked on the assumption of reimbursement before a funding decision.

What the assessors consider

Applications are evaluated on artistic quality and the artist's record, the financial and operational viability of the event, the international profile of the venue or festival, the applicant's capacity to deliver the presentation, and the likely promotional and media impact. An ambitious but financially improbable tour is therefore not necessarily stronger than a focused programme with experienced partners and clear audience benefits.

A concise application can explain why the particular overseas venue matters to the artist's development, who the audience is expected to be, what fees and promotional support the presenter provides, and how the budget was calculated. Previous international activity can support feasibility, while emerging but demonstrably professional artists should be ready to evidence the quality of their work and the reality of their invitation.

Documentation to prepare with the overseas partner

Before using the official online portal, gather the venue or promoter invitation, dates, contract or correspondence confirming fees and practical arrangements, an up-to-date biography and performance links, and an itemised cost plan. The precise mandatory uploads are governed by the application form for this round rather than a generic list in this article. Ask the overseas presenter to confirm the artist fee and its part in marketing the event in writing.

Promotional plans are relevant because Culture Ireland's purpose is presenting Irish culture internationally. An accessible public concert, an established partnership and a credible international audience are more aligned with the scheme than a closed recording session. Sustainable touring considerations, including how equipment and people travel, can also be included where they are genuinely part of the proposal.

Important exclusions and frequent misunderstandings

A grant for touring or presenting work is not a prize for best musical performance. The official criteria exclude competitive events, amateur presentations and work by non-professional artists. The programme also does not normally fund a personal residency or a period of composition without a public international presentation. Likewise, a promoter's fee obligation cannot simply be described as an unspecified future possibility: the partner must provide a fee and help with the event.

International festivals and music competitions sometimes take place together, but their presence in the same calendar does not make every activity eligible. A musician invited solely to compete should review the specific restriction. If invited to play a separate paid professional showcase for a public audience, the eligibility must still be checked on its actual merits with the agency.

Applying and reading the correct guidance

Culture Ireland links its dedicated application system and the full eligibility requirements from the Regular Grant Scheme page. The portal accepts English or Irish applications. The organiser's website advises applicants to use Google Chrome and Windows-based applications when completing an online form. Allow time to review financial figures, gather confirmations from the overseas partner, and save an acknowledgement of submission before the deadline.

Information checked against Culture Ireland's current round notice and eligibility guidance on 17 October 2026. The official scheme terms and online application control eligibility and decisions. Eligible status by itself never guarantees an award; complete budgets, correct activity dates and confirmed international partnerships are essential for realistic planning.
