Phoenix Boys Choir - New Works Rising 2026 Choral Composition Competition

A choral composition competition for boys’ choir with mixed voices, connected to Phoenix Boys Choir’s 2026-27 season theme, “Pathways.”

Deadline: 15 August 2026, 10:00 PM MST/PDT.

Application Fee / Participation Fee: No entry fee.

Eligibility: Open to composers of all ages and nationalities. Only one work per composer is accepted.

· Works should reflect the 2026-27 season theme, “Pathways.”

· Scoring: boys’ choir with mixed voices, including SSA, SATB, SA, and related variations; accompanied or a cappella.

· Suitable for 15-40 choristers; maximum duration 6 minutes; intermediate to advanced-intermediate difficulty.

· Maximum of five added instrumental forces, with the voices remaining the primary focus.

· The work must be original and created without AI or similar assistive technology. Arrangements of pre-existing works are not permitted.

· Winning entries must be new works not previously adjudicated, recorded, or publicly performed outside studio/classroom academic settings.

· Cash awards: first prize $1,500; second prize $1,000; third prize $500.

· PBC may cover part or all travel costs for one or more winning composers at its discretion.

· Publication through the Herbert Washington Choral Series with Santa Barbara Music Publishing may be available by mutual agreement.

· Submit electronically using the official form on the page or by email as described there.

· Required materials include anonymous PDF score, text and English translation if needed, and MP3 audio realization.

· Composers interested in accessible but imaginative choral repertoire for boys and young men.

· Composers with strong text-setting skills and interest in youth/treble-mixed choral writing.

· Check text-rights requirements carefully if using copyrighted poetry or other non-public-domain text.
