OEK “Wayo no Hibiki VII” 2026 Call for New Orchestral Work

Organizer: Ishikawa Orchestra Foundation / Orchestra Ensemble Kanazawa (OEK).
Deadline: Applications must arrive during the official submission period from 1 September to 18 September 2026.
Entry fee / cost: The official call page reviewed does not state an application fee.
Eligibility: Applicants must be 40 years old or younger on the performance date and must be studying composition.
Opportunity / work requirements: The call seeks one unpublished orchestral work, approximately 7 minutes long, that can accompany Noh dance and incorporates one or two Japanese instruments selected from shamisen, shakuhachi, biwa, kokyū, and 13-string koto. The page states that the work should be approachable and suitable for repeat performance. The standard orchestra is 8-size strings, 2.2.2.2-2.2.0.0, one timpanist who may double percussion, and one additional percussionist.
Support / prize / benefit: One work will be selected and awarded ¥100,000. The selected work will be performed by Orchestra Ensemble Kanazawa, conducted by Naoto Otomo, at Ishikawa Ongakudo Concert Hall.
Application method: Send the prescribed application form, two printed copies of the score, and a demonstration recording on CD by post to the address stated on the official page.
Schedule / additional conditions: The selected composer must attend rehearsals on 9 and 10 February 2027 and the performance on 11 February 2027. Domestic travel and accommodation expenses are provided. The jury members listed are Shin-ichiro Ikebe, chair, and Naoto Otomo. Contact: office@oek.jp.
