Eligibility: Each division is open to composers of any nationality. The Young Composers Division is for composers no more than 30 years old at the submission deadline. The All Ages Division is open to composers of any age. Previous winners and composers directly related to Chorus Austin board and staff are not eligible.
Composition / submission requirements: Composers may apply to only one division and may submit up to two entries in the selected division. Scores must be clear, legible, anonymous, and in PDF form from notation software. Submitted pieces may be sacred or secular, no longer than five minutes, and written for any combination or subset of mixed voices including SSA, SSAA, SATB with or without divisi, TTB, and TTBB. Pieces may be a cappella or accompanied by piano; a cappella scores must include a piano reduction. Texts other than English must be accompanied by a translation.
Prize / benefit: Two winners are selected from each division: a first-place winner and a runner-up. First place receives a $1,250 cash prize, two complimentary tickets to each performance if held live, a live recording, a $250 travel reimbursement to attend the premiere performance if held live, and an opportunity to work with Maestro Ryan Heller and Chorus Austin Chamber Ensemble at a scheduled rehearsal. Runner-up receives a $500 cash prize and possible performance and/or recording.
Application method: Submit through the official digital submission link on the Chorus Austin competition page between 1 June and 30 June 2026. Winners are scheduled to be selected by late summer 2026, and winning pieces are scheduled for performance at the Fall 2026 concert Journeys.
